Greetings! I am Ukawia Johnson, LMSW, BBA. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Troy University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Alabama with a concentration in Children, Adolescents and Their Families. Prior to pursuing my passion of becoming a social worker, I obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Faulkner University. I have always had a passion for social work. After working many years in a variety of social service areas, I became a licensed social worker in 2019, Eleven of those years were with Alabama Department of Human Resources (ALDHR). During my time at ALDHR my roles evolved. I began as a financial support specialist to a social service caseworker, to a social worker working closely with the juvenile justice system.
Currently, I work with families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing and those who may have additional health related needs. Serving on the board allows me to help enforce laws and regulations in a fair and just manner while maintaining neutrality. It also allows me to be a voting voice for the social workers practicing in Congressional District 1. It is my goal to continue to shine a positive light on such an important profession.
